Secondary School - Middle Years Programme (MYP)
From 11 to 15 years old
Based on the International Baccalaureate, we offer two pathways to study the MYP stage between Year 6 and Year 10: Subject-based MYP (MYP-S) and Competency-based MYP (MYP-C).
In both options, students receive the same qualification and are equally prepared for their transition to the Baccalaureate stage, despite the significant differences in the didactic programming.
During the information request process, we assist the student in the selection of the best option according to their characteristics and future preferences. This support is provided during Year 5 within school hours for current students.
The competency-based MYP (MYP-C) is based on:
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme itself.
The framework of the seven major competencies defined by UNESCO for the development of the curriculum of the future.
A strong emphasis on digital technologies.
Our extensive experience in individualized attention.
What are competencies?
The International Bureau of Education (IBE), under UNESCO, defines the term "competence" as follows: "the capacity to mobilize interactively and ethically information, data, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and technology in order to effectively engage and act in diverse contexts of the 21st century and achieve individual, collective, and global benefits."
The seven competences it defines and which form the backbone of our programme are as follows:
1/
Lifelong learning
Habit of constant learning. Curiosity. A love of culture and of delving into different subjects.
2/
Self-management
Entrepreneurship skills; adaptability, self-confidence, design thinking and creativity; resilience; responsibility.
3/
Interactive use of tools and resources
Skills in various fields and technologies; physical health; responsible consumer; use of intellectual, cultural, religious, linguistic, material, technical, fiscal, physical and virtual resources; human-machine interaction in Industry 4.0; the use of multiple technologies, etc
4/
Interaction with others
Ability to collaborate fruitfully with others, seeking justice, balance and equitable progress.
5/
Interaction with the world
Multilingualism, multiculturalism, social, local and global awareness and engagement; leadership skills.
6/
Expression in multiple codes
Fluency in languages, mathematics, digital environment, culture, health, finance, media and its updates; micro-skills such as digital, cultural, financial, health and media literacy.
7/
Transdisciplinarity
Practical integration of multiple disciplines to address complex issues.
What sets apart our Competency-based Middle Years Programme (MYP-C)?
It steers away from closed curricula, providing ample room (and plenty of class time) for student inquiry.
It challenges students to use technology such as drones, telepresence robots, virtual reality, augmented reality, Arduino and 3D printing, among other technologies, creatively.
It systematically promotes storytelling, improvisation and contact with innovative people.
It involves self-assessment and peer and family assessment, as well as teachers.
It specifically encourages Enquiring, analysis and creativity .
It completes each of the large blocks of work by means of a final product.
It requires such products to achieve “"individual, collective and global good"

Frequently Asked Questions C-MYP
Our status as a foreign center allows us to design, organize, and deliver an educational offer adapted to the cutting edge of education..
Some of our students are satisfied with the education we currently offer, which is aligned with the best global educational practices.
Competency-based learning is designed to prepare students to adapt to the changing world we live in, which is increasingly diverse and uncertain. It's optimal for students who need a more flexible educational approach, with less regulated content and based on stimulation and learning from best international educational practices.
You can start MYP by competency in any of the courses between Y6 and Y10, just as you can return to the subject-based structure when the family or student wishes.
The option of MYP by competencies is different from MYP by subjects. Our recommendation is to choose the option that works best for the student each year.
In any case, the skills acquired in MYP by competencies will serve them in any program they decide to pursue in the present and the future.
The focus of this program is English/Spanish bilingual. Additionally, French, German, Arabic, or Chinese is included as a second foreign language.
The total number of hours in English will be equal to or greater than that of Spanish. However, this calculation cannot be done on a weekly basis, as the distribution within the curriculum modules varies.
The model will continue to be bilingual (minimum of 50% taught in English by native Teaching Staff), but the calculation of hours in each language will be annual, not weekly.
The International School of Seville - San Francisco de Paula has extensive experience in integrating students with different levels of proficiency in the languages used in class - or even with no previous knowledge of the main languages.
We have resources to ensure proper integration of the student despite language difficulties, as well as to support them in their progress towards bilingualism with knowledge of at least a third language.
Digital development is accelerating the evolution of the world. In order to stay updated in the future, students need to learn how to use the new tools available to them, reap the benefits that their use provides, and finally, become accustomed to the progressive transformation of the technologies themselves.
Students will acquire knowledge corresponding to their level of maturity and schooling. They acquire both the knowledge specific to their level, through the study of the inquiry units, and the knowledge derived from their own interests and the stimulation they receive from their interactions with all other participants in the program - both students and adults.
On the other hand, students will be assessed paying attention to both the acquisition of competencies and the acquisition of content specific to each subject.
The competency-based MYP program is part of the International Baccalaureate secondary program, but with a focus that enhances the acquisition of competencies. However, students graduating from MYP-C will acquire all the knowledge and skills necessary to continue their studies in the Spanish educational system or the International Baccalaureate in future stages.
We will monitor the activity of the students, and based on all these evidences, we will measure the student's progress in each competency in the inquiry units and in the rest of the content.
Additionally, tests will be conducted to verify the acquisition of content in the subjects of the International Baccalaureate.
To pass the course, the student must achieve at least a 3 (out of 8) in the assessment of each competency and pass all subjects included in the competency-based MYP program.
While it is true that competencies underpin the program, competency-based MYP is part of the International Baccalaureate.
The methodology is different, but the curriculum corresponds to the MYP stage, so students obtain the International Baccalaureate certification, as if they had followed the subject-based model.
The MYP certification is valid for both the Spanish education system and for any other school worldwide.
MYP by competencies is designed so that students can choose and study any baccalaureate modality.
