Acquiring and enjoying the value of culture

We instill in our students an appreciation and satisfaction for cultural activities that allow them to enjoy throughout their lives. Deeply linked to the desire for knowledge, a passion for the arts promotes skills and competencies of great value during their growth and maturity.

Promoting reading

We have the largest school library in Spain, with more than 100,000 volumes, which generate 190 loans on average per day, managed by four full-time librarians.

The library occupies the most emblematic building of the School, demonstrating the privileged attention it has always received in the Center, which is corresponded by the magnificent response of our students. In the Library, they can find everything from classic books to the latest editorial releases in different languages.

Our students also enjoy access to the fourth largest collection of ancient books in Seville. Among its documents are 19th-century Buddhist manuscripts, 16th-century Latin manuscripts, documents from King Alfonso X the Wise from the 13th century, and Mesopotamian tablets dating back to approximately 3000 B.C.

Having such an extensive catalogue of historical documents allows us to work with our students using a different and realistic approach, learning about the origins of writing, different languages or specific subjects with real examples.

We have an ambitious programme to promote reading that includes curricular activities, extracurricular challenges, themed exhibitions and family activities that teach pupils a multitude of ways to relate to books. They learn that reading opens up a world of possibilities, which they investigate and enjoy in their own way and at their own pace.

Instrumental practice

The practice of an instrument and musical instruction has multiple benefits in the personal and scholastic development of pupils, as the latest research shows. This is why they occupy a preferential place in our school.

We offer various instrumental practice programs included in the curriculum and extracurricular activities so that the student can choose the one that best suits their needs.

We have Europe's best-equipped school music facilities, with almost 1000 instruments that we use for classroom practice and provide to families for practice at home.

Those students who acquire a high level of instrumental practice can join our International Youth Orchestra of Seville, which participates in national and international events, as well as giving its own concerts.

Our students attend general rehearsals and educational concerts and actively participate in the development of music-related educational projects thanks to our collaboration agreements with cultural institutions such as the Teatro de la Maestranza and the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville.

Directors and guest soloists hold meetings with students to share their artistic experience and different creative processes, bringing the professional reality of music closer and inspiring students for the future.

Music in our school

We have a wide range of practical instrumental programmes to respond to the needs of our students with a training of excellence:

Instrumental Diversification Programme (included in the curriculum)

All our students start in Early Childhood practicing violin, viola, or cello in weekly classes in small groups of up to three students (and up to six in other stages).

Later some diversify to another instrument of the symphony orchestra, being assigned by the specialist teaching staff according to the student's abilities. We want each student to find the instrument they feel most comfortable playing and which gives them the most satisfaction, always encouraging the enjoyment and appreciation of the value of music in their lives.

They also enjoy instrumental ensembles as an elective to enjoy practicing with other instruments and classmates.

Integrated Music Plan (PIM) (optional and mostly in school time)

Designed for students who want to achieve a high musical level, this program enables them to reach the level equivalent to the entrance exams for the Higher Conservatory at age 16. It achieves this by optimizing the number of hours of music class required, both in individual instrumental practice and in deepening content.

This is a high-performance programme that is an alternative to our normal curriculum, but integrates the major part of the practice hours into the normal class timetable and establishes the school itself as the only study centre.

Special Music Classroom (AEM) (extracurricular)

It allows students to learn a musical instrument from the age of 3 years old in an extracurricular way and with teaching staff linked to the Royal Symphonic Orchestra of Seville.

The students of the Aula Especial, together with colleagues from different conservatories and music schools in Seville, form the International Youth Orchestra of Seville, participating in national and international events, as well as giving their own concerts.
