What is Enquiring?
In our school, we prioritize the approach of acquiring and assimilating learning through inquiry, through discovery. We start at the Primary Years Programme (PYP, ages 3 to 10), and our students have the opportunity to continue in this model in the Competency-based Middle Years Programme (MYP-C, ages 11 to 15).
The enquiry is divided into three stages:
1/
Setting a real challenge.
2/
The student investigates, acquires knowledge, formulates hypotheses, experiments with them, and uses digital technologies.
3/
It concludes with a product or outcome.
Our students
The students work on four to six inquiry units per year depending on the grade level. These inquiry units address a central theme that serves as a common framework to acquire knowledge, concepts, and skills from traditional disciplinary areas, but in a cross-curricular manner and by applying them to real-life contexts.
The inquiry hours in class are evenly divided between the inquiry teaching staff in English and Spanish, ensuring quality bilingual education.
The cross-cutting themes on which they focus each year are:
- Who we are
- How the world works
- Where we are in time and space
- How we organise ourselves
- How we express ourselves
- How we share the planet
