Summer Reading Challenge 2025: more than a thousand stories shared

Reto de lectura de verano: descubriendo nuevas historias cada año.

The Francisco Márquez Villanueva Library held the awards ceremony for the Summer Reading Challenge 2025, an initiative that every year invites our students and families to enjoy the pleasure of reading during the summer holidays.

This year, more than 100 readers participated—from Early Childhood Education to Sixth Form—who, between them, read more than 1,000 books, demonstrating that reading continues to be an inexhaustible source of imagination, knowledge and shared enjoyment.

An event to celebrate a passion for books

The event began with a few words from Ms Carmen Ávila, Head of the Library, who highlighted the importance of keeping a curiosity for reading alive beyond the classroom. Next, Mr Lubelski, Head of the Department of English and Language Acquisition, shared his own personal journey through books with the audience, inspiring young readers to discover new stories and authors.

The day continued with a fun activity led by Ms. Mercedes Fernández-Palacios and Ms. Marie Curtis: a book bingo. Participants enjoyed guessing titles and authors.

Finally, diplomas were awarded and prizes were raffled off, consisting—as could not be otherwise—of new books to continue feeding the passion for reading.

Encouraging reading from childhood

At the Francisco Márquez Villanueva Library, we continue to promote programmes and activities that foster a love of reading and lifelong learning. We firmly believe that reading is learning to think, and that is why we offer our students a library with more than 100,000 volumes, the largest of any school in Spain, which is also open to families for their enjoyment.

We appreciate the participation of all readers in this challenge, and especially families, for accompanying their children in the wonderful habit of reading.

Congratulations to the winners and to all those who, this summer, turned every page into a new adventure!
