On Monday 26th September we commemorated the European Day of Languages, an initiative promoted by the Council of Europe and the European Commission since 2001 to encourage language learning in all people, regardless of their age. Internationalisation and language training are part of our philosophy and our DNA as an International School, in which learning and communicating in different languages are present in our daily lives.
We were accompanied by the Mayor of Seville, H.E Mr. Antonio Muñoz Martínez, and the Vicepresident of the Consular Association of Seville, Ms. Victoria Coronil Alonso. Together with our Director, Mr. Luis Rey Goñi, and the President of the AMPA, Mrs. Laura García Villar, they dedicated a few words to all those present.
During the event, we updated our flag yard, which now has more than 30 different nationalities, and we held language concersation meet-ups in the seven most common languages in our educational community: Spanish, English, Chinese, French, Arabic, German and Italian.
The guests also enjoyed visits to a sample of the Library’s ancient collection by Mr Joao Luís Romeira de Sousa, including 19th century Buddhist manuscripts, 16th century Latin manuscripts, documents of King Alfonso X the Wise from the 13th century and Mesopotamian tablets dating from around 3000 BC. These documents are invaluable for the Centre and our students, who learn about the origins of writing and the different languages with real examples.
